BASEBALL AND SHOULDER :
Prevention in the aspect physiotherapy
In my past professional experiences in the fields of baseball , I realized that when the pathology of the shoulder is common not only in professional athletes ( IBL1 ) but also in the many children who come to this sport practicing it also occasionally. The poor economic opportunities and the consequent lack of professional , full-time during training , feeding problems resulting from prevention work is often not optimal .
The personal qualities and training will be critical to the achievement of ” optimal performance ” but only a proper preventive work and reinforcement on the shoulder , avoid unnecessary stops during the racing season .
The shoulder joint allows to spread the forces coming from the muscles of greater dimensions ( of the lower limbs and trunk ), passing to the muscles of the arm, forearm and hand .
Baseball players ( amateur and professional ) usually show a degree of joint laxity glenohumeral joint resulting from the increase in anterior laxity of the capsule ( required to perform the launch ) and a compensatory thickening of the posterior portion of the capsule itself.
During the launch phase the shoulder is constantly urged to keep the humeral head centered in the glenoid cavity : the objective of the proposed program will therefore be to work to better articulation greatly stressed by the sporting gesture .
The proposed program is SPECIFIC for pitchers and will be divided into a work of stretching act to reduce rigidities arising from the many jumps and a program to improve strength and power expressed during launch.
STRETCHES :
All the exercises should be performed before training ( after a slight warming up) and after training . The postures represented shall be maintained at least 20 seconds ( unlike the usual 5 seconds used on normal baseball fields ) .
* Stretch posterior capsule :
Stretching of the capsule below :
Stretching of the anterior capsule :
* Aspect of the Pectoralis :
* Stretching the biceps :
Lengthening of the posterior capsule in decupito side : keeping the elbow to the shoulder and flexed at 90 °, with the other hand push down.
* Supinator of the forearm
Fixators of the scapula: in the prone position, arms abducted at the shoulders, elbows flexed to 90 ° and your thumbs facing up, lift your arms off the ground and Mantener the position for ten seconds.
* Rowing: starting from the prone position, leave an arm “hang” from the table, keeping the elbow extended. Flexing the elbow subsequently bringing the handlebar as high as possible. Hold for 10 seconds and back down slowly.
Here are some suggestions to work specifically on his shoulder. Soon illustrate a job with the rubber bands and the TRX.
Thank coaching staff and players, “Novara Baseball” for your cooperation.
